We love to see how designers incorporate our Zellige tile into various projects. From kitchens to patios, we've seen a lot of creative tilework. Some of the most exciting designs, though, use our tile to enhance a particular style choice in a client's home. It's always a treat to see how versatile Zellige tile can be. The team at Oakwood Homes in Kansas recently renovated an outdated bathroom, and the transformation from depressing to impressive is inspirational.
Early on, the team and their client, Patsy, knew that tile choice would be essential. Project designer Meg shares that "we knew we wanted it to feel old and historical, so the first tile that came to mind was Zellige tile. It's perfectly imperfect and no two pieces are alike. They have curves and chips making it feel like it's aged." The soft pink color of our 2"x6" Rouge Zellige tile fits the bill perfectly. For an added treat, the team used one of their client's stained glass window inserts in the bathroom door. As both an ode to her late mother and a cohesive piece that pulls the room colors together, this stained glass treasure is the perfect welcome to the new space.
Meg explained that creating an archway by the tub and taking the rich Rouge Zellige 2"x6" tile across the ceiling helped make the space feel unique, inviting, and complete. The team chose to vary the pattern along the floor trim for added character, then lined tile around the window as well. Because this Zellige tile is thin, it's easy to work around curves and vary the placement. We love how the small details really pop in this small but stylish space. Our 2"x6" Rouge Zellige tiles are a darker color to complement the lighter floors, but the most important aspect is their natural variations. This handmade tile fluctuates among pink, rose, red, and cherry naturally, letting the light almost dance across its surface. This Summit Hall bathroom renovation is the perfect example of using new products to bring historic charm. All it takes is a commitment to creativity and authenticity from start to finish.
That Vintage Feeling
How do you update a 1980s bathroom but make sure it fits with its 1800s stone schoolhouse surroundings? Choose an artsy and historical vibe. The team at Oakwood Homes wanted to add that vintage charm back into a space that desperately needed a renovation. Style Over Storage
Part of updating the space to feel eclectic and old-fashioned included making purposeful décor choices. Rather than have abundant storage space, Patsy and the Oakwood Homes team chose stylish pieces that brought charm to the room instead. Thrifted light fixtures, including a chandelier over the tub, highlight old-world craftsmanship. An old dresser became the bathroom vanity, complete with a stately mirror stretching to the ceiling. Let in the Light
In such a small space, the team at Oakwood Homes knew they needed to make room for as much light as possible. Fortunately, Patsy agreed. She dreamed of sitting in the tub, gazing out the window. One of the best tricks to bringing more light into a space, however, doesn't have to do with window size; it's all about the walls and floors. Choosing wall and floor finishes that absorb light or are too busy can make the room feel smaller. On the other hand, picking treatments that reflect light and create movement is perfect for taking advantage of natural sunshine. At the Summit Hill bathroom, the team chose thin Zellige tile that's full of life, texture, and color changes.
