The Beverly Casa renovation used Riad Tile in three different but meaningful ways to highlight the new life a Texas couple breathed into this 100-year-old home.

Using Tile to Breathe New Life Into a 100-Year-Old Home
Renovating a 100-year-old house is no easy feat, but this couple from Highland Park, Texas, was up to the challenge. Husbands @adamsaxton and @danmurf3 at @thebeverlycasa kept true to the spirit of the original home while adding plenty of glamorous, clever details to help make the space sing. We love seeing how their use of tile complements so many small but meaningful design choices.

Using Riad Tile in the Beverly Casa

Luxurious and Warm Tones

While white and gray are popular neutrals, especially for walls and flooring, they just don’t bring the sense of warmth and luxury that you get from browns. You can immediately feel how inviting a space is when the tones are chocolate, gold, and brick.
Using our Honey 2”x6” Zellige tile behind the bar is a brilliant way to reinforce the warmth of the dark wood cabinetry while not overwhelming the room with too much color.
Similarly, the rich Terracotta color ceramic hexagon tiles on the bathroom floor bring some life to a space that could be too stark otherwise. The tile here does its job and helps you feel grounded, calm, and welcomed.

Depth Without Distraction

This couple understood that making a splash in a swanky, historic neighborhood didn’t have to be about going big and bold at every turn. Instead, they chose designs that brought interest, depth, and texture without distracting from the beauty of the home. The Zellige tile in both the bar and the bathroom brings that unique character thanks to its handmade origins.
Color variations in the Natural White 2”x6” Zellige tile naturally flow from pinks to blues to browns, giving the shower enclosure some movement and interest.
The bar holds its own as a place of interest, even while it serves to seamlessly blend the relaxed family room and refined library on either side. Without the extra depth and texture from the Honey 2”x6” Zellige tiles, the bar could seem like a simple pass-through rather than a statement of its own.

Highlighting Finishing Touches

The big ticket items like furniture and flooring have a lot of impact on a home’s overall aesthetic, but sometimes the finishing touches are what really solidify a design style. In the Beverly Casa renovation, the choice of accessories, hardware, and even tile grout color help tie everything together and form a cohesive, stunning result.
The gold hardware in the bar (including an amazing sink basin that we want to steal for our own projects) pulls the rich undertones from the surrounding cabinetry, so it was a smart choice in this space. Using our Honey Zellige tile is just one more way to highlight those metallic hues and make these different materials flow seamlessly.
The combination of our Natural White Zellige and Terracotta Color Hexagon Ceramic tiles in the bathroom help highlight more of the subtle but spectacular finishing touches. By choosing white grout to go with the terracotta flooring, the designers tied the space together without making everything too uniform. At the same time, the richness of the terracotta pulls out the darker veins of color in the shower surround and makes the whole room feel cohesive.
We love seeing these expert details at the Beverly Casa and can’t wait to try some of the ideas we have brewing from this inspirational renovation.
