The stylistic statement that has stood the test of time
If you’ve taken a look at our other blogs, you can clearly see that our tile can be used in many different capacities. Whether you’re looking for a gorgeous yet protective kitchen backsplash or an elegant entryway that welcomes your guests, our tile can be used to create your ideal atmosphere within your home. But these tiles that are frequently seen as a modern stylistic statement actually have a long and rich history, dating back hundreds of years! While modern technological innovations have increased durability, Moroccan tile’s appearance has remained true to its roots.
A Storied Past
Moroccan tile design has its roots in Spain and North Africa, dating back to around 700 A.D. Much like today’s Moroccan-style tiles, each one was handmade by skilled craftsmen using natural materials and pigmentation, but while the original Moroccan tiles were made of clay, modern tile is composed of layers of Portland cement, pressed together then cured to ensure durability.
While the methods of production may have changed over the years, Moroccan tile’s distinct style, pattern, and coloration has endured throughout the years and has been enjoyed by a variety of different décor eras by different cultures all over the world. From the palaces of Moorish Spain to today’s mid-century modern households, Moroccan tile has proven to be adaptable to many styles.
Where Moroccan Tile Shines
One of our favorite things about Moroccan tile is their versatility. We’ve seen Moroccan tile used as the main feature in modern homes as well as a subtle backsplash that brings an average kitchen to life. Moroccan tile exists in the rare place where timelessness meets vibrancy, so wherever it’s applied, it brings in new levels of color and texture.
Due to its natural durability, our tile can be used in a wide variety of high-traffic, high-stress areas. Moroccan tile easily stands up to constant strain of a kitchen floor, thriving amid the spills and foot-traffic a kitchen typically sees.
If you’re interested in sprucing up your bathroom, there’s really no better way than with our tile. A tile bathroom floor or shower is the perfect way to give your bathroom a lively appearance, and just like in the kitchen, Moroccan tile can easily stand up to the wear and tear. What’s more, it’s easy to clean, so you don’t have to worry about spending hours scrubbing.
Moroccan tile even thrives outdoors, standing up to extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Whether poolside or on the porch, our tile creates an unforgettable outdoor space.
At Riad Tile, we take pride in our craftsmanship. Each and every tile is given the same high level of care, because we’re passionate about our handcrafted designs and seeing them creatively applied. The lively designs of Moroccan tile have stood the test of time, and we’re proud to continue in such a longstanding tradition.
