Spring is in the air — and, with it, the promise of patio nights and near-perfect weather days. The changing of the seasons has also left us fawning over one of our favorite warm-weather accessories: our easy, breezy, beautiful breeze block tile. Iconic to midcentury style, the gorgeous, ruddy-hued breeze blocks are having a moment — again. While they have often been used outdoors because they allow for ventilation while offering privacy and structural support, they also can be used inside to add unique design detailing, too. Because breeze blocks are handmade, they boast some variations in color and size with irregular edges — and that only adds to the character of this handmade tile.

A Dose of Cosmic Country

Hotspot Birdie’s Eastside in Dallas owes its vintage-mod spirit to the visionary genius, designer Hatsumi Kuzuu, who envisioned a “cosmic country” look that takes inspiration from Texas history and Marfa along with the “funky uniqueness” of the hip neighborhood.  Our Breeze Block – Sun plays a starring role on the restaurant’s design menu, adding so much flavor to the lower bar façade wall. The backlit illumination brings the sunburst pattern to life even more with an elevated flourish. The breeze blocks also play beautifully with our Sunny Days ceramic tile on the surrounding bar walls. Happy days are here again.

The Butterfly Effect

A little farther south of Texas, there’s a breezy, indoor-outdoor bar in Mexico City that’s channeling a full-on butterfly effect with our Breeze Block – Butterfly tile. They’ve clothed the space from top to bottom in these alluring tiles, with a breeze block wall and bar fronts. But what is even more statement-making is the breeze blocks on the ceiling to provide sun protection and style! The whole effect reads authentic and cool — and it has us wanting to book the next flight for a margarita on the patio.

This buzz-worthy backyard is ready for the ultimate barbecue party with our Breeze Block – Triangle tile. Even if you didn’t like geometry class, you’ll be crushing on all the angles of this breeze block wall that offers both privacy and panache. We love using breeze blocks in a backyard to separate and define spaces while maintaining airflow and a sense of openness. -
