Casablanca Gold Marble 12x12 - Rose Gold
We might be biased, but we think tile is one of the design world’s powerhouse tools. Want to add color? Tile. Depth? Tile. Luxury? Also tile. Fortunately for our bank accounts, luxury doesn’t only come from the finishes or quality of the materials. It can also come from purposeful design choices. We love these DIY tips for using tile to create a luxurious space, no matter what your budget might be.

Cover a Large Area

If you’re on a budget, covering a large area with tile might seem out of the question, but in this case, it’s not so much about total square footage as the illusion of coverage. You can get a luxurious look by tiling a single wall floor to ceiling; tiling three walls partway will cost the same amount but look more commonplace. Choose a surface that will add depth and movement to your space, mimicking grandeur even in small rooms.

Introduce a Surprising Color

If you’re looking for luxury and can’t go big on the square footage, choose to go bold on the color. Making a statement with your tile choice and embracing surprising colors can add rich tones to any room, upping the level of luxury almost immediately.

Vary the Layout Pattern

Get a luxury look from any tile by choosing an interesting layout pattern. We’ve seen a thousand kitchens with stacked tile backsplash, and while this will always be a favorite (it’s classic for a reason!), it doesn’t immediately impart luxury. Designs with interesting layout patterns, on the other hand, draw in the eye and invite you to look closely at the beautiful details that are part of the space.

Create a High-End Focal Point

Even with all of these great tips, sometimes you just find that higher-end tile that you fall in love with. We’ve all been there. Instead of giving up your dream, find a way to feature that tile in a small area that makes it the star. Trying to fit just a few rows of your favorite tile above a bathroom sink won’t scream luxury, but framing around a mirror or the stunning kitchen archway gives the appearance of purposeful restraint.
