1" Penny Round 1
Katie Bowling is an interior designer and mom of three who works with her husband to renovate old homes. Their 1920s Cape Charles, Virginia beach cottage is a 325-square-foot tiny home, so every room matters.

They recently updated their bathroom and laundry room combo, which needed some thorough attention. The result of the room is a cozy beach house bathroom with warm colors. It's perfect for warming up and rinsing off the salt after a day in the water.

The original bathroom needed a cohesive style and had some features needing updating. Katie's conversion included painting the room with Dirty Martini by Clare paint and updating the sink, shower faucet and sconce. The olive green is a sophisticated background to the drop sink and striped sconces.

In the shower, Katie used Riad's Casablanca Carrara Marble – Honed – 3″x6″ Subway and 1" Penny Round tiles. The marble subway tiles brighten the room and add to the Victorian look. Penny tiles look elegant in the bathroom and provide more grip, making the shower stall less slippery. The completed look is classic yet warm and inviting.

Tiles offer decoration inspiration and unique features for any room in your house. Penny tiles provide a fun, textured look. Don't feel limited to one color. Use them to create stripes, patterns and even lettering. Penny tiles are truly perfect for your bathroom floor. The Zhush also made a list showcasing additional creative uses:

  • Use as your kitchen backsplash.
  • Install for bathroom walls and floors.
  • Decorate mirror frames.
  • Add a splash to your stair lining.
  • Spruce up your laundry room floors.
  • Create a unique fireplace look.
  • Create accents, such as on a shower shelf.
  • Wrap around columns and posts in your home.
Mainly used in bathrooms and kitchens, renovators can be playful with their subway tile layout. In addition to the classic subway look, installment options include:
  • Herringbone style for an eye-catching, whimsical look.
  • Simple stacked for a clean and crisp feel.
  • Beveled to add texture.
  • Vertically-laid to make your space feel taller.

The grout also offers different looks, from white to a stand-out black, as Katie Bowling used. White grout creates a clean, light look. Gray or black makes the tile pop and, as a bonus, hides stains better. You can even use browns and blues to match your accent colors in a room.

However you install your subway tile, they provide a crisp, versatile backdrop for your decorative vision. All your kitchen accents and shelving will stand out. Match them with an all-white theme or colored cabinets that pop.

Whether the look you want is modern or classic, the Casablanca Carrara Marble, with its natural stone, veining and color variations, is an attractive option. The 1" Penny Round tiles are a playful addition to your home. They certainly look incredible in Katie Bowling's beach cottage! And they could also make a significant style impact in your home.
