Sea Green 4x4 Banner
Summer is officially here, so it’s time to swoon over charming patios and outdoor spaces that leave us asking why we’d ever spend time inside. Eventually, we remember air conditioning, but until then, we’re ready to bask in outdoor oases beyond our brightest dreams: cue this week’s customer spotlight, a stunning terrace styled by Homme Boys, a design duo out of Sonoma, California. Look at the space below:

This backyard could have come straight from a luxury travel brochure. Using our 4”x4” Natural White Zellige on the planters and our 2”x6” Sea Green Zellige on the firepit, Homme Boys our Zellige tile with bringing an “old world feeling” to their space, and we couldn’t agree more.

The design thrives on strong symmetry with just a hint of imbalance. Flanked by two abundant birds of paradise plants, the star of the space is the fire pit, surrounded by a hanging bench and two chairs. Asymmetrical wire cage lights give your eye an exciting line to travel along, and the pristine white backdrop makes us feel like we’re in a Moroccan Riad or exclusive residence.

The glazed sheen on our Zellige perfectly offsets the natural features of the space, like the rope holding the swings and the decomposed granite on the ground. Homme Boys used decomposed granite and limestone as a base (both pictured separately above), and we can’t decide which look we love more.

There are myriad reasons to explain why this look works so well, but one of our favorite aspects is the color palette. Building with a pop of color on a neutral base is one of our favorite ways to layer design, and this patio highlights how that approach works so well. Whether the ground is tan, covered with decomposed granite, or cream, covered with limestone tiles, the white of the house paired with the neutral furniture and fixtures allows the green of the Zellige fire pit and the lush flora to take center stage.  We can’t think of a better place to find shade on hot summer days or warmth on cool midsummer evenings.
